About Spine Plus Chigwell
Spine Plus Chigwell was established in 2000 by osteopath Robert Shanks. Originally under the name Chigwell Osteopathy Practice, it was later renamed Chigwell Osteopathy & Physiotherapy Practice when Robert’s mother, a chartered Physiotherapist with over 40 years of experience, joined the business. The most recent rebrand to “Spine Plus” coincided with the expansion of the clinics across East London and Essex.
Our Chigwell clinic is our largest facility, featuring a rehabilitation gym, multiple treatment rooms and a full range of advanced therapy technologies.

Treatment is led by expert hands-on therapy, with the option to integrate medical-grade focused shockwave therapy, TECAR therapy and Class IV laser within the same appointment, delivered by your treating osteopath or physiotherapist when appropriate.
We also work closely with a trusted network of surgeons, consultants and radiologists, so if we can’t help you, we’ll almost certainly know an expert who can.

Our Chigwell clinic regularly treats patients from Chigwell, Buckhurst Hill, Woodford Green, South Woodford, Wanstead, Hainault, Loughton, Epping, Theydon Bois and the surrounding areas of Essex and East London.
We also regularly treat patients from Grange Hill, Barkingside and Woodford Bridge. Many of our patients are referred by their specialists or live near West Hatch High School, Chigwell School, Grange Hill Golf Club and Hainault Forest Golf Club.

Can I park at the clinic?
Yes, we have designated patient parking spaces on the forecourt outside our Chigwell clinic.
Do you offer non-surgical treatment for disc problems?
Yes. IDD Therapy is a safe alternative to spinal surgery, available at our Chigwell and Gidea Park clinics. It helps relieve disc bulges, sciatica and chronic lower back pain.
Do I need an MRI scan to receive IDD Therapy?
Yes. To receive IDD Therapy you need to have had an MRI scan of your neck or lower back. This lets us assess your suitability and know which disc to target.
What other conditions do your osteopaths treat?
Our osteopaths help with joint pain, muscle tension, neck issues, sciatica, headaches and postural strain. We also work with patients recovering from injuries or managing chronic musculoskeletal conditions such as tendinopathy (frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and more).
Can you refer me for an MRI scan?
Yes. We work closely with several MRI centres and can organise specialised spinal sequences and MRI reports from specialist radiologists.
Is treatment covered by insurance?
Many private health insurers cover osteopathy and Shockwave therapy, and some cover IDD Therapy. We can provide invoices for reimbursement; contact your insurer to confirm eligibility.
How soon can I get an appointment?
We aim to offer appointments within 48 hours. You can book online or call us directly to find a time that works best for you.
Do you have a female osteopath available at Chigwell?
Yes. Louise works at both our Chigwell and Woodford clinics.
