Focused Shockwave Therapy at Spine Plus clinics in Essex and East London

We Set the Standard for Shockwave Therapy

Spine Plus stands as one of the few select clinics in the UK offering both focused and radial shockwave therapy. While most UK clinics rely on radial pressure wave technology, we harness the unparalleled energy of focused shockwave, around a hundred times more powerful, using a Harley Street standard of care. Focused shockwave penetrates deeper, with laser-like precision.

Our clinics are also equipped with the latest Class IV laser device, which we can offer alongside shockwave therapy during the same appointment at no extra charge, depending on the condition being treated.

How Does Focused Shockwave Work?

Unlike radial shockwaves, which use mechanical pressure waves, focused shockwaves are generated electromagnetically via a cylindrical coil, which creates opposing magnetic fields when current is applied. The energy is focused at a precise point deep within tissue.

In medicine, shockwaves were originally used (from 1980) to disintegrate kidney stones. In modern pain therapy, focused shockwave energy is applied to painful and injured areas where it promotes healing by stimulating neovascularisation: the formation of new blood vessels and the repair of damaged ones. Improved blood flow means faster and better quality healing.

The treatment is swift, non-invasive and highly efficient. It meets the safety standards set by NICE (the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence). No anaesthesia is required, and there are no restrictions on the day of treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will treatment start at my first appointment?

Yes. After a case history and assessment, treatment begins at your first appointment. The only exception is where a contraindication is found during assessment.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. Most patients self-refer by calling or booking online. For focused shockwave for vascular erectile dysfunction, we recommend consulting a specialist first to rule out hormonal causes.

How often do I need treatment?

For most conditions, once per week. The focused shockwave delivers quick results; most problems respond to six sessions or fewer.

What happens during a session?

You are greeted at reception and taken to the treatment room. A water-based conduction gel is applied to the target area, and the probe is held or moved gently over the treatment site. Pressure and frequency are adjusted to your comfort level. With focused shockwave, a highly effective dose can typically be delivered with minimal discomfort.

Is it safe for people with heart conditions?

Yes. The treatment is entirely safe and is not associated with any known side effects, even for individuals with underlying heart conditions.
